RTP, volatility and max win come from each provider's published figures, with known lower versions noted.
Casinos choose which RTP version to run. Check the game info before you play.

Baccarat (punto banco) is a card game where you bet on which of two hands, Player or Banker, ends closer to 9, or on a Tie. You make no decisions after betting: the cards are drawn by fixed rules. The banker bet has the lowest house edge, 1.06% after the usual 5% commission; player is 1.24%; the tie, which pays 8:1, has a house edge of about 14.4%. No baccarat strategy changes those odds. You can play RNG baccarat with free demos or live baccarat with a real dealer; in Ontario and Alberta, play for real money at registered sites only.
These casinos have the widest choice of RNG and live baccarat tables among the 165 we review.
If Player stood on two cards, Banker draws on 0–5 and stands on 6–7. If Player drew a third card, Banker acts as follows:
| Banker total | Banker draws if Player's third card is |
|---|---|
| 0–2 | Always draws |
| 3 | Anything except 8 |
| 4 | 2–7 |
| 5 | 4–7 |
| 6 | 6–7 |
| 7 | Stands |
You do not need to memorise this: the game applies it automatically.
With eight decks:
| Bet | Wins about | Pays | House edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banker | 45.9% of hands | 1:1 minus 5% commission | 1.06% |
| Player | 44.6% of hands | 1:1 | 1.24% |
| Tie | 9.5% of hands | 8:1 | 14.36% |
| Tie (at 9:1 tables) | 9.5% of hands | 9:1 | 4.84% |
Banker wins slightly more often because of the drawing rules, which is why it carries a commission. Even after the commission, it is the best bet in the game.
In no-commission baccarat, banker wins pay 1:1 with no commission, except a banker win with a total of 6, which pays 1:2 (half your bet). That raises the banker house edge to about 1.46%. Commission tables are slightly better value for banker bettors.
Side bets are entertaining but much more expensive than banker or player.
The only strategy that lowers the house edge is choosing the bet:
Live baccarat is dealt from a real shoe by a dealer and streamed to you. Variants include Speed Baccarat (about 27-second rounds), Squeeze Baccarat (the dealer slowly reveals cards), No Commission and Lightning Baccarat. The odds of standard live baccarat are the same as above. See live casino.
| RNG baccarat | Live baccarat | |
|---|---|---|
| Cards | Shuffled every hand | Shoe |
| Minimum | Often C$0.50–C$1 | Usually C$1–C$5 |
| Demo | Usually | Rarely |

Yes. In Ontario and Alberta, play at registered sites; elsewhere, provincial sites and licensed offshore casinos offer baccarat. See casinos by province.
Most bonuses exclude baccarat or count it at 0–10% toward wagering, and betting on both banker and player to clear wagering is banned. Read the terms; see wagering requirements. For regular baccarat players, cashback and VIP programs are usually better value.
Baccarat is popular with high-stakes players, and live VIP tables accept large bets. Check the table maximum and the casino's withdrawal limits before you play big. See high roller casinos.
Player gets 4 and 2 (total 6) and stands. Banker gets king and 3 (total 3). Player did not draw, so Banker draws on 0–5: Banker gets a 5 for a total of 8. Banker wins 8 to 6. A C$20 banker bet pays C$19 (C$20 minus 5% commission); a C$20 player bet loses.

Baccarat suits players who want low house edge without learning a strategy. Blackjack offers better odds if you are willing to learn.
Mini baccarat is the low-stakes version found online and in many land-based casinos: the same rules and odds, a smaller table and lower minimums. Chemin de fer and baccarat banque, where players take turns as banker, are rare online. EZ Baccarat removes the commission and instead pushes banker wins with a three-card 7; its house edge on banker is about 1.02%. Whatever the name, check the commission rule and the tie payout before you play.
RNG baccarat can deal a hand every few seconds; live Speed Baccarat about every 27 seconds; standard live tables about once a minute. At C$5 per hand, a fast RNG session can easily wager C$1,000 an hour, which at a 1.06% edge costs about C$10.60 on average. Slower live tables cost less per hour for the same bet.
Many casinos offer French-language live baccarat tables, and the rules are the same. See online casinos in Quebec.
