What is a cashback bonus?
A cashback bonus gives you back part of what you lost over a period. If a casino offers 10% weekly cashback and you deposit C$200, play and end the week C$150 down, you get C$15 back. If you end the week ahead, there is nothing to return.
Cashback is calculated on net losses: deposits minus withdrawals and remaining balance, or bets minus wins, depending on the casino. Most programmes only count real-money play, not bonus money.

The rate shown is the maximum advertised. Many casinos pay higher rates to higher VIP levels, so new players often start at the lowest tier.
Cashback vs rakeback vs lossback
These three names are often used loosely. Here is what each one usually means:
| Type | Based on | Paid when | Example |
|---|
| Cashback / lossback | Net losses over a period | Daily or weekly, only if you lost | 10% of a C$150 loss = C$15 |
| Rakeback | Every bet, win or lose | Instantly or daily | A share of the house edge on C$1,000 in bets |
| Live casino cashback | Net losses on live tables | Weekly | 25% back on live losses, capped |
Rakeback is a crypto casino favourite. Instead of losses, it returns a share of the casino's expected margin on every bet. On a C$1,000 turnover on slots with a 4% house edge, the expected margin is C$40; 50% rakeback returns about C$20, whatever your results. Thrill and Winna on our list offer rakeback of up to 70% and 60%.
How is casino cashback calculated?
Most casinos use one of two formulas:
- Deposits minus withdrawals minus balance: the simplest version, used for weekly cashback.
- Bets minus wins: used for daily cashback and for game-specific offers such as live casino cashback.
Check the details in the terms:
- Period: daily, weekly (often Monday to Sunday) or monthly.
- Cap: the maximum cashback per period, for example C$300 or C$3,000.
- Minimum loss: some casinos only pay cashback above a threshold, such as C$20.
- Eligible games: some offers only cover live casino or one game, such as a roulette table.
- Bonus play: losses made with bonus money usually do not count.
Is cashback paid as cash or bonus money?
This is the most important question about any cashback offer. Cash cashback can be withdrawn immediately; bonus cashback carries wagering, often 1× to 10×, before it becomes cash. Rakeback is almost always paid as cash.
A 10% cashback paid as cash is worth more than 20% paid as bonus money at 10× wagering. The bonus cards above mark each offer's terms; when the casino does not state it, we show "Check whether it is paid as cash or as bonus money".
Is cashback better than a welcome bonus?
For many players, yes:
| Welcome match bonus | Cashback |
|---|
| Paid | Up front, on deposit | After you lose |
| Wagering | 30×–45× | Often none |
| Restrictions | Max bet, game weighting, expiry | Few |
| Value for regular players | One-off | Every week |
| Best for | Slot players clearing a bonus | Live and table players, regulars |
Cashback is especially good for live dealer and table game players, because match bonuses barely count those games toward wagering. If that is you, combine cashback with a casino from our live dealer casinos list and skip the match bonus.

- Frumzi and LamaBet: 25% weekly live casino cashback up to C$300.

How to get casino cashback
- Check that the offer applies to your games and whether you must opt in.
- Play with real money: bonus play usually does not count.
- Wait for the period to close, such as Sunday night for weekly cashback.
- Collect the cashback: some casinos credit it automatically; others ask you to claim it in the promotions section within a time limit.
- Withdraw or play it, after any wagering.
Cashback and responsible play
Cashback softens losses but does not change the house edge. A 10% cashback means you still lose 90% of what you lose. Never play to "earn" cashback, and set a deposit limit before you start. Cashback in Ontario and Alberta
Like other bonuses, cashback offers cannot be advertised publicly in Ontario and Alberta. Registered casinos there may run loyalty and cashback programmes for account holders. See Ontario online casinos.

Weekly vs daily cashback
| Daily cashback | Weekly cashback |
|---|
| Calculated over | One day | Monday to Sunday, usually |
| Typical rate | 3%–15% | 5%–25% |
| Typical cap | Lower | Higher |
| Best for | Players who play most days | Weekend players |
| Risk | Rewards daily play | Losses and wins net out over the week |
Weekly cashback nets your results across the whole week, so a winning Saturday can cancel a losing Tuesday. Daily cashback pays on each losing day separately, which can return more for players with mixed results, but it also encourages daily play. Choose the one that matches how you already play, not the other way round.
Live casino cashback
Several casinos on our list, including Frumzi and LamaBet, offer 25% weekly cashback on live casino losses, capped at around C$300. Live cashback is one of the few bonuses designed for live dealer players, because match bonuses barely count live games toward wagering. Check whether it covers all live tables or only some providers, and whether game shows are included.
Cashback for existing players
Cashback is mainly a loyalty tool. New players usually start on the lowest tier, and the rate rises with VIP level: Rexbet, for example, pays 5% to 15% weekly by level. If you play at one casino regularly, the cashback rate and cap matter more than the welcome bonus. Compare VIP and loyalty programmes before choosing where to play long term.
Is cashback worth it?
Cashback is worth it if you already play regularly at one casino, because it lowers the cost of play with few restrictions. It is not a reason to play more. The best offers pay cash, have a cap that matches your play, and come from a casino with a strong safety index.
